Robson backs Bale for United

Manchester United have tried but failed to prise Gareth Bale away from Real Madrid, on two occasions this summer.

United have courted Bale for years with both Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes lodging bids at one time or another.

Former United captain Robson, who won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups during his time in Manchester, believes Bale is just the player for Van Gaal.

Louis van Gaal must have identified this which made him sign a world-class, proven player in the form of Bastian Schweinsteiger and a pleer whose star is on the rise, Morgan Schneiderlin, thus making United well-equipped in that position now.

Worse is likely to follow, because the De Gea saga has still not come to an end and, by my estimation, it would be surprising if the summer transfer window closes next month with the goalkeeper still at Old Trafford.

Depay by playing in a central area doesn’t get the ball very often which leads to him to go searching for ball which doesn’t work very well. But is Stones – a largely unproven 21-year-old with no European experience to speak of – really the kind of player Van Gaal and Woodward should be prioritising? Although some commentators have said that none of their opponents were strong enough to match the stiff opposition they will face in the Premier League, Liverpool have shown that they are serious about finishing among the top four in the new season after last year’s disappointment. If they really are now open to it, even at a staggering price, that has to be a positive for City. Still, there is still need for a class striker at the top – a speedy, intelligent and sharp-shooting talent who would give United the extra edge in crunch matches.

United wanted to include Los Blancos defender, Sergio Ramos, in the deal, however the defender has reportedly agreed to a new deal at the club.

Based on the Spanish reports, English newspaper Express has claimed that Real Madrid captain is still keen on a move to Old Trafford.

After the summer break, David de Gea returned to join the Reds in the preseason tour but Di Maria didn’t report to the Dutch manager on July 25, which was supposedly the date he rejoin the team after the Copa America.

Youngsters Andreas Pereira, Adnan Januzaj and James Wilson, who have already caught the eye of fans around the world are also expected to have a big season ahead.

Meanwhile, United legends have stated their support for the potential transfer.
