Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2016
Miller tells Rolling Stone that he “was very pleased and happy” to hear the news, although he admits that he hadn’t thought a lot about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before he was nominated earlier this year. It’s all legitimized in a way because the whole music industry has to honor the group in a way.

Deep Purple rocker Ian Paice, who recently admitted he feared his band would be left out of the 2016 inductions because there are so many members, concludes, “I knew it would probably happen one day”. And, for the tenth time, Chic was snubbed. Voters include over 800 record execs, music experts, music critics, and past winners. The fan pick for this round was Chicago. Numerous inductees have been waiting for inclusion for several years, but it doesn’t change the fact that this year’s list of inductees is disturbingly slanted towards male White rockers from the ’70s, a sort of last gasp for the “classic rock” generation and another thumbing of the nose at the stars and genres that emerged later. In fact, their hit “Straight Outta Compton”, which came out this year, has made over $161,000 already, and may have been a factor in them making it into the Hall of Fame for 2016. Deep Purple have been eligible for induction for 23 years and have been nominated three times.
FILE – Steve Miller performs at the 25th annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards, in Los Angeles, April 9, 2008. They had been eligible for 14 years, and have been together as a band for almost 40 years. They will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in a ceremony in April.
Four of the five acts that will be inducted now tour in some fashion.
N.W.A. are only the fifth hip-hop group to make it to the Rock Hall, following like-minded pioneers in Public Enemy as well as The Beastie Boys, Grandmaster Flash, and the forefathers of the gernre, Run DMC.
New to the Hall are Chicago, Deep Purple, Steve Miller, Cheap Trick & N.W.A.
“N.W.A.’s improbable rise from marginalized outsiders to the most controversial and complicated voices of their generation remains one of rock’s most explosive, relevant and challenging tales”, the Hall of Fame said in its announcement.
