Rocket League getting CS:GO-style crate system
How the system will work and whether players will need to purchase keys with real money hasn’t been clarified yet.

Rocket League’s crates will not be in league with Valve’s Steam Marketplace, as this marketplace has seemingly been ridiculed and tormented by gambling and other malicious practices.
The loot crates will also be strictly cosmetic, and won’t interfere with the game’s current unlock systems.
“Those assets are, indeed, early pieces of an upcoming system we plan on implementing to fund our eSports prize pools and events”, Psyonix wrote.
“Rocket League” will be in for a minor change with a reported key-and-crate system similar to the ones used on “Team Fortress 2” and “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive”. “It’s actually a pretty cool system that we’ll be happy to share detail about next month”.
We hope everything goes as planned, and that they are just cosmetic items, because Rocket League is such a nice game that I don’t want to get ruined by microtransactions.
The new crates also will not affect Psyonix’s plans of free content such as arenas, modes and items, as well as the occasional paid DLC. This mainly means that Psyonix is taking the strict stance to ensure that “Rocket League” will not totter in the direction of pay-to-win scheme.
It’s interesting that Dunham says the Steam Marketplace integration doesn’t exist because of issues with third-party gambling sites.

It seems the developers of Rocket League are listening to their community as they have this past year and granting multiple options for their players who either want an item drop system or simply want to play the game without any of that jazz. With the “Rocket League” Championship Series set for August 6 to 7, the key-and-crate system is likely to debut near those days.
