Rocket League is getting mutators, including hockey

Additionally, a new Mutator mode will be heading to Rocket League in December. Mutators have been around since the days of Quake and Unreal Tournament, serving as a means for players to modify core gameplay with silly or challenging modifiers.

The update will not bring any reminiscent cars, or even a more interactive map (as many fans of the original game have been asking), it’ll rather introduce mutations, a unique way of changing the elapse of a match.

The team at Psyonix haven’t wasted any time in congratulating themselves on Rocket League’s huge success (check out our review of the game here), releasing a number of free updates since the game’s release back in July. This new update will be available sometime in the month of November. This includes new modes like “Moonball”, which decreases the arena’s gravity, and game modes like “Cubic” and “Time Warp” that are making their return from Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars. This mode will be based around hockey but, you know, with cars.

You’ll be able to tailor these settings to your requirements and play custom matches, while a preset playlist will allow players to jump into online Mutator matches straight away. The developer will then head over to Reddit for an AMA on November 3 at 4 pm EST.

I would have never thought a little game called Rocket League would turn out to be the most fun I’ve had gaming in years.
