Lastly, it would be irresponsible of us to not point out the fact that the Blue Jays were able to swing this deal without giving up Daniel Norris, Aaron Sanchez, or Jonathan Harris, the team’s top young pitching prospects. Anthopoulos on Tuesday corrected that obvious error, but he spoke with no regrets of the unfortunate decision to choose Romero. “Getting better doesn’t have to mean a reliever or a starter”, Anthopoulos said. Saw him there, but since then he’s had a tremendous career. “I love the guy”. And you always make that deal. We liked both players a lot. They rank seventh in RBIs (406), but only 116 of those have come from their outfield combo of Aoki, Pagan, Hunter Pence, Gregor Blanco and Justin Maxwell, which Brian Sabean might view as a bit of a problem (even though the outfield has dealt with many injuries). At the same time, I am glad the D’backs don’t have to face him 19 times a year anymore.

For the moment, in the aftermath of the Blue Jays’ stunning acquisition of shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and reliever LaTroy Hawkins from the Colorado Rockies, there is only one question that needs answering.

The prospects are the key part of the deal and there’s no way to know how any of them will actually do in the Majors. And Hawkins is not just a throw-in. The Rockies also spent their first round pick this year on a shortstop, Brendan Rodgers.

Before the game, Weiss was asked if he’s talked to his star shortstop about handling distractions leading up to Friday’s non-waiver trade deadline. Perhaps the Mets will get back into the Jose Reyes business after four years off. They certainly have the pitching prospects to make it happen.

Tulowitzki has stayed healthy this year, playing in 82 of the Rockies 98 games.

Gonzalez has not played more than 135 games in a season since 2010, while Bruce’s 137 games played in 2014 is his low in that category over the last five full seasons.

An issue like that would likely have shone brightly in October but with Tulowizki on board, that problem has been corrected. If you project Rockies hitters by only their road OPS, you’ll tend to underrate them going forward. The only way is to find a fifth starting pitcher that can slot in with Mark Buehrle, R.A. Dickey, Marco Estrada and Drew Hutchison.

Baltimore has a ton of money coming off the books next season when various players hit free agency and maybe they can get the Rockies to pay for some of his contract if they really don’t feel comfortable with the $20 million he’s owed in 2017.

Reyes, 32, is signed thorugh 2017 at $22 million per season.

Tulowitzki’s fit is also odd considering the Blue Jays only have $40 million committed to salary next season.

The Jays, if all things remain equal, can boast a powerhouse batting order that has improved in terms of run production and OPS.

Defensively, the left side of the infield has been significantly upgraded, which helps the pitching. Toronto leads the Majors in runs (528) by a significant margin over the second-place Yankees (456).
