Rockies can’t slow down Reds’ Hamilton or solve Cueto

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chris Rusin calls for a new ball after giving up a three-run home run to Cincinnati Reds’ Todd Frazier during the third inning of a baseball game Saturday, July 25, 2015, in Denver.

Cincinnati Reds’ Todd Frazier follows the flight of his three-run… Rosenthal says one of the players going from the Royals to the Reds in return for Cueto did not check out medically. Besides the early start time (an hour before most home games begin) that creates tough shadows for hitter, we’ve got a pair of bet-on hurlers facing off against a pair of suspect offenses. That proved to be prophetic.

The Rockies have dropped five of seven but might be more concerned with the health of Nolan Arenado, who was hit in the left hand with a 96-mph fastball from Johnny Cueto on Saturday. With Dickerson on base and pinch hitter Michael McKenry coming up, the Reds went to Aroldis Chapman.

Billy Hamilton is expected to a part of the team’s future, and in the meantime he’ll look to continue tormenting the Colorado Rockies as the Reds try to cap this three-game set with back-to-back wins Sunday. Hamilton led off the inning with a single. Rusin threw to first in an attempted pickoff but Hamilton was already headed to second, forcing a hurried and errant throw by first baseman Ben Paulsen that went into the outfield, allowing Hamilton to advance to third. For Sunday’s game the Rockies start Kyle Kendrick who has allowed 130 hits and 73 earned runs while striking out 56 over 107.1 innings for a 3-11 record and a 6.12 ERA. Hamilton led off with a bunt single. The 29-year-old has pitched eight strong innings in each of his last two starts against Colorado, and he’s 3-2 with a 3.38 ERA in seven career starts against the Rockies.
