Rockies hit 3 homers in 4th inning, beat Dodgers 7-4

Mike Bolsinger #46 of the Los Angeles Dodgers reacts after giving up a fourth inning home run to Carlos Gonzalez #5 of the Colorado Rockies during a game at Coors Field on September 25, 2015 in Denver, Colorado.

The Dodgers’ lead in the division is 8 with nine games remaining. The USOC is trying to bring the 2024 Olympics to Los Angeles. “But we’re not looking forward to nothing”.

Charlie Blackmon, Carlos Gonzalez and Dickerson hit homers off Mike Bolsinger (6-5). Dickerson came to the plate in the eighth a triple shy of the cycle but struck out in his final at-bat. He’ll face Kyle Kendrick, who has struggled against the Dodgers this season, allowing 13 runs in three starts. Rockies LHP Yohan Flande is at least 50-50 to return this season, manager Walt Weiss said.

John Axford pitched the 9th for the Rockies, earning his 25th save of 2015.

“It’s nice that we got some runs early, especially coming off the series we just had”, Weiss said.

Line up and fire away: The three-homer fourth matched the Rockies’ one-inning high this season.

“In high school one time, there was a line drive hit to left field when we were playing intrasquad”, he said.

“I definitely haven’t put myself in a very good position for anything”, he said. “It’s kind of embarrassing at this point right now”, Bolsinger said. I just have to figure out what to do to finish strong.

Howie Kendrick had a two-run single in the seventh to cut the deficit to 7-4.

This is the second-to-last week that we’ll do these shout-outs, too, since the season ends next week in San Francisco. “We’re playing against teams that (don’t) have anything to lose – they play us a little harder”. And the Rockies scored when Gonzalez singled and third baseman Nolan Arenado grounded into a fielder’s choice. Shifted way over, he sprinted over to stop Crawford’s slow bouncer near third base. Crawford got credit for a single, but he was tagged out after rounding first, never thinking that Arenado would have the wherewithal to make the play and throw behind him.

“It was a insane play”. Suddenly, the ball was in first baseman Justin Morneau’s glove and Crawford had no chance to get to second, and no way back to first.

The Dodgers donnybrook from the day before between manager Don Mattingly and Clayton Kershaw seemed all but forgotten a day later in Denver as the player and coach were seen laughing and joking before the game.

The two had a conversation in the weight room. “He’s like, ‘No, go ahead.’ I was good with that”.

Regardless of what the Giants do, the Dodgers can guarantee themselves the NL West crown by taking the remaining two games at Coors Field this weekend.

Seager’s legs are feeling heavy and Mattingly said he wanted to be cautious with his 21-year-old rookie. “He had his mind made up he was going to pop up and throw to first”. Friday’s homer was a nice return for Blackmon, who had sat out the previous two games with neck stiffness. He is making his 11th start this season and has been touched up for 14 homers in 68 1/3 innings. The Rockies were swept by Pittsburgh, which clinched a playoff berth in Coors Field on Wednesday.
