Reyes had been playing in the minor leagues. This means that the team will have ten days to either trade or release him.

If Reyes is traded, the Rockies will likely still have to pay a significant portion of the roughly $40 million left on his contract.

Reyes completed a 59-day suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s new domestic violence policy.

The domestic violence case against Reyes, stemming from a hotel incident in Maui, was dropped when prosecutors said his wife refused to cooperate.

In a nine-game rehab stint with Triple-A Albuquerque, Reyes hit.

Reyes came to the Rockies in the trade with Toronto last season that sent Troy Tulowitzki to the Blue Jays.

The move was made easier by a breakout season by rookie shortstop Trevor Story (.265/.318.553 with 17 homers and 45 RBIs).

It’s official: Jose Reyes will not be back with the Rockies.
