Rod told he won’t play field Friday in final Yankees game
“It’s not that I wouldn’t like to see it, but we’re in a part of the season where we are trying to win”.

Boston Red Sox’s David Ortiz, left, scores behind New York Yankees’ Gary Sanchez during the first inning of a baseball game in Boston, Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016. I get that we are playing games.
The Yankees plan a pregame ceremony Friday night to recognize Rodriguez. He has agreed to become a special adviser to team owner Hal Steinbrenner, but he has refused to rule out playing for another team if someone calls.
It was widely assumed the three-time AL MVP would retire when the New York Yankees notified him about his release. “It was a fun request, and I don’t have any problem with Joe saying no on that”. I’ll get a chance to say goodbye to our great fans. Rodriguez tried to play down any dissension. “He’s probably saving me some embarrassment, so that’s not a bad thing”.
Rodriguez did not play in the series opener Tuesday and was a pinch-hitter Wednesday night.
“It was louder than usual”, Rodriguez said. I’m sure that the movie’s writer, Ron Shelton, at one point during his minor league career, heard a speech a lot like that. But Jon Heyman of TodaysKnuckleball.com is reporting the Miami Marlins are having “internal talks” about potentially signing the 41-year-old, but Heyman casts doubt on it actually happening.
“I’m focusing on, this is it”, he said. “I’m not looking beyond that”. I value the pinstripes, I value this organization.

When asked directly if he views Friday as his last game as a Yankee or his last game ever, A-Rod was fully clear with his intentions. “To me, this is it”.
