Our thoughts go out to Roddy’s family and friends at this time. He would often come to the ring wearing a kilt and his trademark “Hot Rod” t-shirt, and playing a bagpipe. The likes of The Rock and CM Punk have taken to Twitter and paid tribute to the inspirational star. And so much more… Piper was formally inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005 in Los Angeles, California.

WWE Hall of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper passed away on Friday in his Hollywood home due to an apparent heart attack. “He was an fantastic man and a true friend. #ThankYouRoddy #RIP”. Piper was cast as the villain, and his disqualification led to Hogan claiming the WWF championship.

Skakel told E! News that the wrestler, who had last appeared on his show two months ago, did not show up and that his wife texted him to say he was unable to make it. He also started a podcast; Piper’s Pit with Roddy Piper, in association with PodcastOne; the podcast is also hosted on Podbay.fm. He fought Mr. T in a boxing match at WrestleMania II, followed by what was thought to be Piper’s retirement match against Adrian Adonis at WrestleMania III.

And Kevin Nash added: “RIP to Roddy Piper“. What a competitor?! I was honored to be your opponent in the first Wrestlemania. Hulk called Piper his brother in the tweet and sent his love to Piper’s family.

Rolling Stone reports that Piper also had a media presence outside the ring, starring in the 1988 cult flick “They Live“, by John Carpenter.

“He was a great wrestler”.

While Colt Toombs, Roddy’s son, said he will miss his “best friend” forever.

Carpenter said he was “devastated” by the news. Piper’s pro wrestling career began in the early 1970s where he worked for organisations including the AWA and the NWA.

Piper was extremely well-respected in wrestling circles.
