Rodgers Claims Liverpool Are in Rebuilding Phase After Europa Draw

Asked if he was anxious about the reaction if his team were beaten by Everton, he said: “No, no, not at all, not at all, we will go into the game with every notion to perform and win well”.

Although Simon Mignolet has been prone to the odd error or two, he has kept 12 clean sheets in the Premier League in 2015 – no goalkeeper has kept more in that time.

Speaking about the 20-year-old, Rodgers spoke of Origi’s “limited chances” so far but said he is “getting experience” in European games. “Now it’s starting to evolve where we’re starting to create opportunities and clear-cut chances”, explained Rodgers.

“We made a good start but gave away a disappointing goal – it was probably their only chance“.

“We have to move on quickly for a big game on Sunday against Everton“.

Sion manager Didier Tholot sat on the Anfield turf in his suit pants as he celebrated with his players after holding Liverpool to a 1-1 draw in the Europa League on Thursday night. The 26-year-old scored twice in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Aston Villa but is not in Rodgers’ plans for the Europa League tie against Sion on Thursday with the manager anxious “we don’t break him at this stage”.

But despite the 1-1 draw, which meant we’ve only won four of our past 17 matches, Rodgers hasn’t been contacted by his employers about the rut, and is striving to turn it around.

“He had his loan period a year ago and this season it was about him coming into the club”.

“We know it’s a long season – it’s still very early – and we’re making progress as we go along, and we know we have a few outstanding players like Daniel Sturridge to come back into the ranks”.

Everton appear to be the more content of the two rivals who will contest the 225th Merseyside derby.

Liverpool FC is just too tiresome to watch, there’s no spark or ambition from the squad this season. “We’re a couple of points off where we want to be, five points off the top with a lot of improvement left to come”.

“Whenever you win games, that’s the key”.

If confidence is through the roof, Martinez will be hopeful of securing his first Merseyside derby victory at the fifth attempt. John Stones and Seamus Coleman are in doubt and face late fitness tests.
