Rodgers: I don’t fear getting the axe at Liverpool

When pressed specifically on his future, Rodgers explained that he hasn’t lost sleep over any of the sacking rumours.

According to ESPN FC sources, Liverpool’s Christian Benteke is likely to miss the Merseyside derby after suffering a hamstring strain against Norwich City.

Sherwood and Rodgers have holiday homes next to each other in Spain, and the Aston Villa manager launched a defence of the beleaguered Liverpool boss insisting poor results depend on fine margins.

Having seen his side scrape past League Two side Carlisle on penalties he has endured rife speculation linking both Carlo Ancelotti and Jurgen Klopp as his potential replacements.

“We have to concentrate on the next one, come in on Saturday, get the job done and win the game and move on”.

Liverpool pressed for a victor but struggled to create any clear cut chances with many fans inside Anfield being frustrated.

He said: “I am never complacent enough to think my job is safe”.

“What I’ll always do is give my best to the club and if they decide they need to change, I’ll totally respect that”.

“I’ve been going to Liverpool for 50 years now, since I was a kid, and you very rarely hear boos ringing round the place”, he said.

“I know you need to get the results, and I enjoy the pressure of that”. Lovren suffered ankle ligament damage in the midweek Capital One Cup tie with Carlisle, while the Reds fear that Roberto Firmino has cracked a bone in his back.

The former Mainz boss has been on a managerial sabbatical since stepping down from him post at the Westfalenstadion at the end of last season.

I hope to be a manager for another 20 years. But I want to fight for the players here.

Liverpool now sit 13th in the table with eight points from six games, while Villa have collected just four points, but Rodgers has stressed they can not underestimate Saturday’s opponents.

Champions Chelsea returned to winning ways by beating Arsenal last weekend, but they will be without Diego Costa for their visit to Newcastle United (1630) after the striker was handed a retrospective three-game ban for tangling with Laurent Koscielny.

“Experiences make you better as a manager”.

“When you come into here and a club of this stature, then that is always there”.

“I’ve an inherent belief in what I do”. We almost achieved great things. We have a new group of players and we are looking to take it forward.
