England forward Sturridge has been in full training since last week after recovering from a hip operation in May but is in line for a return to action.

Henderson, who took over the captaincy when Steven Gerrard left for LA Galaxy in the close-season, recently had treatment in the United States to cure a heel injury.

“Jordan will train today, Daniel has been training with the team for a week or so, so will be assessed”, Rodgers said in this afternoon’s press conference.

Rodgers has faced heavy criticism after a mixed start to the season, which has seen the Reds win two of their opening five Premier League games but suffer significant defeats against West Ham and Manchester United.

Last season with Luis Suarez sold to Barcelona and Sturridge injured Liverpool really struggled and no player managed to get into double figures in the league.

“We’ve been waiting for that for quite a time”.

Rodgers, addressing the media ahead of Sunday’s clash at Anfield, said of Sturridge: “On his day, he’s one of the best”.

“[Henderson] knows he needed to get this injury right. I’m reasonably calm that our progress will come”.

“Few can stretch teams like he can with his pace and he has variety with his finishing. His performance was brilliant”.

Sturridge’s eventual return will boost us tenfold – and a potential strike partnership with Christian Benteke with hopefully solve our goalscoring woes.

No official word has been given on any potential return date for the midfielder, who has watched his team-mates pick up just one point from nine with him on the sidelines, ut Liverpool hope the visit to the USA will help identify the root cause of Henderson’s issues.
