Rodney walks in winning run as Rangers top Mariners 4

Seattle closer Fernando Rodney didn’t let a ball get out of the infield in the ninth inning.

Eager to do something good for his new team, left-hander Cole Hamels will make his delayed third start with the Rangers on Monday against Seattle. “It’s never one thing that causes you to lose a game”.

Starting pitcher Derek Holland #45 of the Texas Rangers throws in first inning against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium on September 2, 2014 in Kansas City, Missouri. Shin-Soo Choo was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Shawn Tolleson (5-2) worked a scoreless ninth inning for Texas to earn the victory. The Mariners have won four of their last five games when scoring more than three runs. “That’s baseball”.

Rookie Ryan Strausborger, who joined Texas last week, opened the ninth with a bunt toward first base that Rodney couldn’t field. “But, I think it’s a big boost to our guys to know that one of their guys is going to be back in the rotation”. “I’m just trying to do whatever I can to help this ballclub win”. Hamels allowed the first two batters to reach in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings, but Seattle couldn’t put together a multi-run inning. The Rangers had runners at first and second with no outs. Beltre charged hard on Marte’s bunt, spun and fired back to third to Elvis Andrus, who moved to cover the bag in the “wheel” play. We had opportunities to drive in runs and we didn’t get it done. While they did give up some solid talent, the recoup of that in a player like Hamels more than makes up for the potential loss. “After I showed that I could throw my curveball for strikes, that was another pitch they had to look for”. “They threw us out on a bunt play”. Three came off the bats of former Ranger Nelson Cruz, Robinson Cano and Mark Trumbo 10 days ago.

Hamels is 0-1 with a 5.93 ERA in two starts with the Rangers since being acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies last month.

Mariners: LHP James Paxton (strained left middle finger) is scheduled to throw a simulated game Tuesday. Paxton (3-3) has been sidelined since late May.

The Rangers announced that right-hander Yu Darvish threw on Monday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last March.

Darvish, who just turned 29 on Sunday, owns a 3.27 ERA with 11.2 K/9 over his first 83 starts in the majors.

With New York 14-5 the last nineteen games in this series, we recommend a 1* play on the Mets.
