Rodon, Morneau, Cabrera lead White Sox past Mariners, 4-1

Chris Sale threw his fifth complete game but was out pitched by Felix Hernandez in a 3-1 loss on Friday. Todd Frazier’s seventh inning home run kept the White Sox from being shut out. To do that, Seattle turns to struggling starter Taijuan Walker to face off against Chicago’s Carlos Rodon. The 24-year-old made three starts for Triple-A Tacoma after being crushed by the Angels for six runs following a DL-stint for foot tendonitis.

Walker allowed four runs (three earned) in 5 2/3 innings against the New York Yankees on Tuesday in his first start since rejoining the big-league team.

But the lamentation is that LeBlanc, who was 3-0 with a 4.50 ERA in eight starts and three relief appearances, would have been the better option. He has 336 putouts, 17 assists, four errors and three double plays over that time.

Robinson Cano hit a solo homer, his 30th, and Kyle Seager had three hits for the Mariners, .

“Thank God we (scored) early because I think everybody saw when (Sale) gets on a roll, it’s lights out”, Servais said. It was a tight game. “Obviously, I’m not trying to hit a batter, but I’m trying to get them off the plate”.

Scoring six runs with two outs, including four in the fifth inning, the White Sox throttled the Mariners 9-3 Saturday night at U.S. Cellular Field. The White Sox announced X-rays were negative and Eaton’s status is day to day.NOTES: White Sox RHP Miguel Gonzalez reported no issues after pitching in a simulated game Saturday and will go on a minor-league rehabilitation assignment this week, manager Robin Ventura said.

Walker allowed four runs in 7 1/3 innings as the Mariners lost 4-1 to the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. Adam Eaton left the game soon after being hit by a pitch in the fourth inning because of a bruised right forearm.

The Mariners put two runners on base with one out in the ninth inning against Chicago closer David Robertson but, again, came up empty. Abreu was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Morneau followed with a single to left for a 2-0 lead. That one run wasn’t felt for long, because Saladino came through with a two-run homer in the seventh to seal it.

“To kind of carry us, especially here on the road today and going into Texas, I’d like to see our bats wake up and start putting a consistent five, six, seven runs up there on the board, and then see where we’re at”.

Gutierrez sent Sale’s 97 miles per hour fastball into the seats in right-center in the second and the Mariners added another run on a double play in the third.

“He got me that win right there”.

In the eighth, Melky Cabrera legged out an RBI triple for the White Sox to pull ahead, 3-1.

When the Mariners sent up Adam Lind as a pinch-hitter for Dae-Ho Lee, Chicago countered by bringing in Dan Jennings, their only lefty reliever, for matchup purposes. “He’s got incredible stuff”.

Cano has reached 30 home runs for the second time in his career. He had 33 in 2009. “Even when it doesn’t look like he’s swinging the bat that well, he does have a knack for finding holes and getting hits and keeping it going”.

“I know I’m facing Sale and he’s a great pitcher and it’s going to be a tough game”, Hernandez said.
