Roethlisberger cleared to practice for Steelers

The Steelers saw their two-game winning streak end with a 39-30 road loss to the Seattle Seahawks as three-point underdogs, but they have won nine of the past 10 home meetings with the Colts straight up, with a 7-3 mark against the spread.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is out of concussion protocol and was cleared to practice with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday.

Channel 11’s Bill Phillips then asked Roethlisberger if he thinks he’ll be on the field Sunday night when the Steelers host the AFC South-leading Indianapolis Colts.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed on Tuesday that Roethlisberger does indeed have a concussion and his status for Sunday is still to be determined.

Speaking to “The Cook and Poni Show on Sportsradio 93.6 The Fan for the #1 Cochran Ben Roethlisberger Show Tuesday”, the veteran quarterback said a brain injury is not something he’s willing to risk.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin was a defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator before taking over in Pittsburgh in 2007.

One option, Tomlin said, is sliding Gay to the outside and playing Boykin in the slot – this was what I thought the plan would be when they acquired Boykin in training camp.

Roethlisberger missed four games this season with a sprained MCL and bone bruise. That didn’t seem to sit well with Roethlisberger, after he self-reported symptoms and took himself out of last week’s game.

Brown has been almost unstoppable in the six games in which Roethlisberger has played with 62 catches for 898 yards and all five of his touchdowns. Roethlisberger on Wednesday said a team physician told him on the sideline against Seattle that he didn’t have a concussion. The tight end went down in the Week 12 game with a rib injury and could be out Sunday. Replace the word concussion with “brain injury” here and that still doesn’t sound very good.

“We are blessed to be able to stand on a big platform and reach a lot of people”, Roethlisberger said.

I hate to go all old-school on you, but can’t you just see The Chief right now, if he were still alive and such a situation happened, calling all parties involved into his office and speaking through that chewed-on cigar saying, “we’re embarrassing ourselves, boys; let’s get on the same page”. That’s my biggest weakness, so I don’t know what I did. “I guess if you’re allowed to practice, you can play”. And it was tough when I first got in the league.

“We realize that the opportunities are getting fewer”, Tomlin said.

Scrambling around to buy time and make throws will always be part of his game, but Wilson has been markedly better in the pocket because of improved offensive line play. “You don’t want to think about after football with your head, but you have to”. Carroll said “you’ll have to wait and see”.
