‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ trailer: Darth Vader returns

A new trailer for Star Wars spin-off Rogue One has been released, offering fans a fleeting glimpse of Darth Vader. After all, the track history of Star Wars prequels hasn’t been great.

While it’s obviously going to touch on iconic Star Wars moments and characters we know and love, it’s also going to bring some new ones into the mix.

Leading lady Felicity Jones features heavily in the trailer as Rebellion fighter Jyn Erso, who defiantly declares: “This is our chance to make a real difference”.

Rogue One hits theaters December 16.

She said: “I think we can talk about Vader”.

Felicity Jones stars as Rebel spy Jyn Erso and is joined by Diego Luna, Mads Mikkelsen and Donnie Yen, the latter of whom dispatches stormtroopers with a sword instead of a lightsaber.

She is sent on a mission to help investigate “a major weapons test” – better known as the Death Star in development – and find out how to destroy it.

In May, it was reported that Disney had ordered weeks of costly reshoots on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It’s reported that unknown Welsh actor Spencer Wilding will play Vader in the new film with Jones again voicing the part.

Directed by Gareth Edwards (who made the 2014 blockbuster Godzilla), Rogue One is set between the events of prequel movie Revenge of The Sith and 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope.

That’s the entire setup for “Star Wars: Rogue One” in a nutshell – a rag-tag band of soldiers and mercenaries are sent off to recover the plans to the original Death Star.
