Beginning September 30, fans are invited to create and share their own Go Rogue videos. Hailing from Making Star Wars, these pics drive home the point that, if J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens captured the spirit of the original Star Wars trilogy, Rogue One looks like it was ripped directly from another era in the best possible way.
Rather than just unbox toys across several worldwide time zones like last year’s “Force Friday” – which earned an estimated $1B in Star Wars Force Awakens merchandise retails sales – Rogue One toys are being revealed in #GoRogue, a four-part series of fan-made stop-motion animated shorts that spotlight the action figures. With stop-motion, it takes about 10 hours of shooting time to create 6 seconds of video. We also get a glimpse of several actors with Gareth Edwards on the Scarif set.
The contest closes on October 30. The #GoRogue contest asks fans to create their own short films with the toys they buy, with winners getting a trip to LucasFilm HQ in San Francisco for a special “Rogue One” screening and a screening of their short. The newest Star Wars heroine has a rogue steak in her as she leads the rebel team in a mission to steal the plans of the Death Star.
