Mr. Kumar, who was arrested on sedition charge on February 12 and released on March 3 on an interim bail, is a native of Begusarai district of Bihar.

“We are not asking for freedom from India, we are asking for freedom in India”, he said in an impassioned speech at Jawaharlal Nehru University, where he is the president of the students union.

The JNUSU president is accused of having participated in an allegedly anti-national event, where seditious slogans were raised, although investigation has revealed that there is no evidence of him saying anything sedition. He added that he condemns what happened on the night of February 9 but it was up to the court to decide if it was sedition or not.

Sharma said on Saturday that they do have faith in the judiciary but want to deliver “quick” justice.

“I am happy to present first copy of the book to first citizen of the State”, Sinha said on presenting book to the Governor. “People show magic and sell rings that fulfil all wishes…We have some people like that in our country, who say black money will come back, sabka saath sabka vikas (development for all)”, he said. The police also ensured full security to Kanhaiya on Thursday, when he was released from jail on conditional bail and deployed multiple escort teams to make sure that he reaches the campus safe.

He said Guru is not his “idol” but Rohith Vemula, the Hyderabad University student who committed suicide, is.

The 28-year-old said that he saluted the soldiers guarding the country.

Kanhaiya said “he can feel the change occurring in society and politics at large”.

Unlike most of the BJP leaders, Sinha said there was nothing wrong if Kanhaiya demanded azadi (freedom) from poverty, casteism, hunger besides his stand on freedom of expression under the rights provided by the constitution. He also spoke on other topics and picked on various institutions such as ABVP, TV channels and the Delhi Police and politicians including Narendra Modi.
