Role reversal: Gonzaga to face underdog SC

It will be key for OR to knock down shots, because North Carolina’s bigs have been dominant in defending the paint in the tournament.

Lazar said that becoming a Tar Heel fan at UNC was nearly compulsory.

Not only did the Bulldogs defeat an Elite Eight team in Florida, but also they took down the Big 12 champion Iowa State and Arizona, which won the Pac 12, and was the eighth most commonly picked champion in ESPN’s Tournament Bracket Challenge.

This never say die attitude was best exemplified with SC defending, up 75-70, with 19 seconds left. He rolled his ankle in UNC’s first round win over Texas Southern and shot 3-for-21 in two games during the first weekend, one of which was a near-upset at the hands of Arkansas. She remembers it well, saying, “I had to play my best game because I’m on the biggest stage”. And each year we got better and better, and then we got really, really good. North Carolina only has three less players and coaches in the Basketball Hall of Fame than OR has had players drafted into the NBA. “That’s something that’s been important for us ever since I started coaching, and I still believe that”. The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of North Carolina is their ability to rebound, especially on the offensive glass.

The couple, who moved to Eugene in 2008 to further their education, says they’re big Ducks fans, too. But I think they have a little bit of an advantage because their defense is so unique teams who have not seen it before have trouble against it.

OR (33-5) provides a contrast.

The Ducks have flourished in the role of underdog in recent seasons.

For the second straight year, the Tar Heels are in the Final Four with the weight of an NCAA investigation looming over them.

It’s not a seven-game series, it’s one and done. “My first year on staff we won four Division I games”, Few said Saturday of his time as an assistant. He is supported by guard PJ Dozier’s 13.7 points per game. For all it’s worth, he is a senior, and he is also averaging 12.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per contest.

“They’re from here. So they kind of saw that there was apathy in place, that there wasn’t a lot of success”, said Martin, now in his fifth season at SC.

USC women’s basketball made it to the Final Four in 2015 – a first for the school.

When North Carolina and OR tip off on Saturday night, it will mark the fifth time the two teams have met.

Adrian Buoncristiani, 77, served six years as Gonzaga head coach (1972-78), posting a record of 78-82 before being fired, a move that drew plenty of criticism around the Spokane, Wash., community at the time.

This is nothing new for the Tar Heels and Hall of Fame coach Roy Williams, who is in his fifth Final Four with UNC and ninth overall dating to his time with Kansas. Thornwell has been on a hot streak lately averaging almost 26 points during the Tournament. He averaged 25.8 points per game, leading the ‘Terps to their lone national title. They’re coming at those two guys. His jumper with 0.3 seconds left beat Kentucky 75-73.

If the Bulldogs make Monday’s national title game, though, they will either meet the third-seeded Oregon Ducks (33-5) out of the Midwest Region or the top-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels (31-7) from the South.

Any question of their strength because of conference alignment or past history has been overblown, and theyve proven all of the numbers that showed them to be a top contender this season were right.
