“The Rolling Stones are very happy to be here, very enthusiastic, as we all are”, said the British ambassador to Cuba, Tim Cole, who was thankful for the Stones’ “warmth”, especially Mick Jagger’s, who briefly stepped out on a terrace where he was immediately surrounded by a crowd looking for the best angle for a photo.

The band will play a free show at the Ciudad Deportiva de la Habana later this week, a concert that has been rumoured since frontman Mick Jagger visited Havana in October previous year.

“The Rolling Stones are going to open it so that Cuba has more choices of rock bands, especially from the era we were unable to participate in”.

“This show in Havana will be a milestone for us, and we hope for all our friends in Cuba too”, said the official spokesperson for the band, who released the statement prior to their arrival. Cubans listened to their music in secret, passing records from hand to hand.

The concert in Cuba wraps up the bands just completed Latin America “Ole” tour.
