Rolling Stones to play free concert in Cuba on March 25

The concert is a big deal as Cuba’s government discouraged citizens from listening to rock music for many years, a policy now dropped, along with a ban on large groups of people gathering for non-official events.

Noticiero explained that officals are working on organizational aspects of the show to be held at Havana’s Sports City.

The appearance, which will take place on March 25, will follow the legendary band’s current South America tour, along with the increasingly relaxed relations between the US and Cuba and President Obama’s recently announced trip to the country.

The Stones will play in Havana’s Ciudad Deportiva three days after President Barack Obama visits Havana.

The jaunt through Latin America has so far included concerts in Santiago, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Porto Alegre.

The Rolling Stones are also leading an initiative where musical instruments and equipment are being donated to major suppliers for the benefit of Cuban musicians.

Paul Dugdale, the filmmaker who helmed One Direction: Where We Are is directing.

Julie Jakobek of JA Digital said: “It’s a great honour to be working with the Rolling Stones again on this hugely exciting and historic event”.
