Rolls-Royce share price: ANA to replace some of group’s engines

Japanese carrier ANA Holdings Inc said on Tuesday (Aug 30) it could take two to three years to replace engine parts for its Boeing 787 models with new ones.

Separately, an ANA Dreamliner to Mumbai had to return to Tokyo’s Narita airport on Tuesday after an engine signaled problems, spokeswoman Maho Ito said by phone. Rolls-Royce is supposed to start supplying ANA with modified versions of the turbine blades from January and the carrier will replace the current blades in all its planes, ANA said last week. Rolls competes with General Electric to provide engines for the 787, with the British company having about 40pc of the market of the 445 Dreamliners now in service.

“We have been working with Rolls-Royce, the designer and manufacturer of the engines in question, to implement permanent technical solutions to this issue”.

It is an issue but it’s a manageable issue.

Rolls-Royce Holding PLC’s (OTCMKTS:RYCEY) executives opine that with more intensive use of aircraft, natural wear and tear of engine components happens sooner. Several problems showed up nearly as soon as Dreamliner deliveries began.

Dreamliner Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines, the same as those used by Air New Zealand, were found to have cracking problems for one Japanese airline. It said it has been repairing some of the 37 used on global routes since a problem with the engine was detected in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in February.

ANA has received 50 787s out of total orders for 80 and is the largest customer of the Dreamliner.

ANA, which has been in talks with Rolls-Royce over the engines since March, operates nearly a third of the global Dreamliners with Trent 1000 engines, according to a Morgan Stanley research report.

We believe that Both Boeing and Rolls-Royce should work closely to resolve the turbine engine issue caused under certain flight conditions.
