Rolls-Royce Wraith’s conversion to rugby special edition kicks off

If you are a rugby fan and have space in your garage for one more auto than here’s an idea for you. The English White paintwork is created to match that of the England rugby team, although more specifically it references the shirts of Rugby School, where the game was founded in 1823.

Rather than celebrating the tournament directly – something Rolls can’t do because Land Rover is the official vehicle sponsor – the auto is meant to evoke the roots of Rugby the sport and the school it takes its name from. And it is this rule breaker that Rolls-Royce is honoring in their newest one-off creation.

Since 1871, a red rose has been emblazoned on players’ shirts, supposedly appearing after the Rugby School got permission from Queen Elizabeth I to include her emblem on its crest. 21-inch five twin-spoke alloy wheels complete the Wraith’s muscular exterior look.

The most recognisable symbol of English rugby has been crafted into the interior. Hotspur red colour from the famous rose is also used on the dash, door and seat piping.

Rolls-Royce claims the birth of the company, established by Charles Rolls and Sir Henry Royce, re-wrote the rules of the automotive industry in the same way Ellis did with football. The main interior color is Seashell contrasted with Navy Blue. The accompanying Gilbert rugby balls, using the same Seashell and Hotspur Red leather as Rolls-Royce and made by the craftsfolk of Goodwood. The infotainment screen cover also features a rose motif, this time in contrasting, polished silver veneer to stand out against the black.

James Crichton, Regional Director, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Europe, commented, “This truly unique Wraith emphasises vision and individuality, inspired by the role it plays within a team”. “While the game of rugby may have been inspired by the act of one individual, it is one of the world’s most popular team sports”. It ties that into its own efforts here by stating that this Wraith represents all of the hard work and efforts of the engineers and craftspeople working in Goodwood.
