Now it is claimed that Lukaku had told the Merseyside club he will stay at Goodison Park for at least another season.

Koeman said: ‘For the club and for this group it is totally awesome as ten days before the transfer deadline Romelu Lukaku enters the manager’s office and tells us that he doesn’t want to leave but has chose to stay at Everton’.

Lukaku has been widely linked with a move to his former club Chelsea during the summer transfer window, after having put in a transfer request earlier in the summer.

However, Everton held firm by putting a £75 million asking price on his head to ward off interest in his services.

David Anderson of The Mirror is now reporting that Lukaku would rebuff any approaches from Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge, and would indeed apply himself to the Everton project that the Dutch manager is building.

“For the club and for this group it is totally awesome”, he told De Telegraaf.

“Him staying at the club is just as valuable as a big transfer”.

‘It is great to work with him and I think he had seen that we want to engineer improvement at every corner.

In the long run, the Toffees are prepared to make the 23-year-old their highest-paid player ever on a long-term contract worth over £100,000 per week. “To develop him into a really top player is the challenge before me”.

The Blues will certainly be keen to help him do so as they will want to prove to the striker that his decision to stay is the correct one.
