Romo hurt; Prescott may have to step up
Tony Romo could miss most of the National Football League season after the Dallas Cowboys confirmed the quarterback has a broken bone in his back.

A broken bone in his back forced Romo to miss time in 2014 and surgery on another back problem saw the 36-year-old sit out the final game of the 2013 campaign.
Romo tried to get back into Thursday’s game and said afterward that he was OK.
The Cowboys open the season September 11 at home against the New York Giants. According to Coach Jason Garrett (via CBS Sports’ Jason La Confora), an MRI exam revealed Romo suffered a broken bone in his back that initial reports said could keep the starter out for up to 10 weeks.
Prescott should start at least the first month of the season but he might wind up playing two full months before Romo is ready to come off the injured list.
Rookie Dak Prescott, a former Haughton High School star, is now the team’s backup and has had an outstanding preseason.
Romo missed 12 games in 2015 after breaking his collarbone twice.
The team had been hoping for a big turnaround this season with a healthy Romo behind center.
Prescott was elevated to the backup job when incumbent Kellen Moore broke his right ankle in a training camp practice.
