Romo on the mark in return

“They’re a damn good football team”.

The Cowboys have been one of the NFL’s worst teams this season, and they are still four games under.500.

Romo was rusty and in addition to being picked off twice and getting sacked twice, he bounced two passes and missed a couple of open targets.

He led the Cowboys to a 24-14 win over the Dolphins, throwing a game-winning touchdown pass to Dez Bryant with 14:55 left in the game. Romo was 5-of-9 on passes thrown 15 yards or more downfield, including the two touchdowns.

“Romo made a difference; he made a difference”, Mincey said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

“To give you an idea, if you ever want to make a picture of his positive competitive mentality, do it when he came back off a shoulder that had six fractures”, owner Jerry Jones said after the game. “OK? Six. OK!”

When asked if he has concern about Romo playing two games in five days, Jones said after Sunday’s game, “No, no, I do not….” Since Week 2 of 2014, the Cowboys are 16-3 when he starts and 0-8 when he doesn’t. Without Romo in 2015 they are 0-7.

-PASS DEFENSE: A. The Dolphins completed just 13 passes for 188 yards and two scores.

“(Dropped passes) and penalties really killed us”, Campbell said.

“We’ve got to stop the run”, Miami defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh said.

The New York Giants had a Bye Week.

The week before, the Cowboys suffered a tough 10-6 loss to the struggling Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Miami will travel to NY next Sunday as they look to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Jets at 1:00 p.m. They benefited greatly from Romo’s ability to extend plays throughout the game, but when they needed to come up big to finish the game, they were able to pave the way for the running game.

With a record of 3-7, it certainly doesn’t seem like it’s time to celebrate, at least not until you glance at the NFC East standings.

That’s the same Jeremy Mincey who weeks ago said the Cowboys couldn’t wait for Romo to return to win games, because “he’s not Jesus”. Narrative, especially in sports, especially in the National Football League, especially at the quarterback position, especially the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, is as good as what’s happening- right NOW.

The Cowboys’ first scoring threat ended with an interception by Brent Grimes, but Romo soon settled down and showed his characteristic creativity. Dallas’ defense scored a touchdown – on middle linebacker Rolando McClain’s 12-yard interception return – and gave up just two.

Miami averaged 5 yards per carry offensively, which is terrible for a defense, but the Dolphins didn’t think they could run on Dallas and only ran on 14 of its 41 snaps.

San Diego Chargers wide receiver Javontee Herndon (Razorbacks) caught five passes for 37 yards in a 33-3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Tony Romo returned to the Cowboys on Sunday after missing seven games.

And when the Dolphins then tied the game midway through the third quarter on a 29-yard Tannehill to Kenny Still completion, that penalty following the Cowboys’ second touchdown seemed like a devastating momentum-changer.

But Bryant beat a linebacker and a safety for the touchdown that put the Cowboys ahead to stay, 21-14, on the first play of the fourth quarter.
