Ron Johnson: ‘Cordial’ meeting with Obama SCOTUS nominee changed nothing
Delaware Senator Carper meets with Merrick Garland, Chief Judge of the U.S. Federal Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, who President Obama has nominated to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Judge Merrick Garland is doing something unusual for a Supreme Court nominee: giving a commencement address to graduates at his high school alma mater.
President Obama nominated Garland in March and the Republican-led Senate has held no hearings or votes on Garland’s nomination.
Ohioans also agree that Garland was a smart choice, with 47 percent support over 33 percent who do not support. Todd questioned the Senator about his meeting with Garland during their interview on Monday.
Grassley and most other Republican lawmakers have argued that the seat of the late Justice Antonin Scalia should be filled by the next president.
The survey was conducted from April 27 to May 8 among 1,051 Florida voters, 1,042 OH voters and 1,077 Pennsylvania voters.
“The U.S. Senate should exercise its constitutional powers by not confirming a new Supreme Court Justice until the American people elect a new president and have their voices heard”.
The completed questionnaire is 141 pages long and includes 2,066 pages of appendices. Further, GOP members in the Senate have said they will basically ignore Garland’s nomination. Even if they wait until the lame duck session of Congress later this year, Tester says, “I think they’re still doing a disservice to the country”.
“Chief Judge Garland and I had a productive discussion about his record and approach to the law, and it is clear to me that he is a well-qualified candidate for the Supreme Court”.
Whether Garland will get a hearing is uncertain.
“Let’s hold a hearing and hold a vote on the Senate floor”.
Immediately following Scalias death during a hunting trip in Texas in February, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, declared the Senate would not engage in the confirmation hearings of any nominee offered by president Barack Obama, claiming it was too close to the November presidential election.

While Flake said a “conservative jurist” should replace Scalia, Garland could be a better alternative than a potentially more liberal nominee from Clinton.
