Ronaldo helps Real hand Atletico another final defeat
Real Madrid won 5-3 on penalties after the match ended tied at 1.

In the final in 2014, Ramos’ stoppage-time equalizer meant an added 30 minutes in the match.
The match went into extra-time as it was tied at 1-1 after the regulation time.
Neither teams could find a victor in the added 30 minutes as players on both sides were exhausted, but the penalties were flawless.
All of Real’s players kept their composure to beat opposition goalkeper Jan Oblak from the spot, and when Atletico favourite Juanfran saw his effort come back off the post, Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up and hit the victor.
Altetico Madrid’s coach Diego Simeone was left devastated after another Champions League final defeat at the hands of city rivals Real Madrid on Saturday.
This time, it was Real Madrid instead of Atletico that conceded a late equalizer.
“I wanted the team to win, what’s best is I get another Champions League (winner’s medal)”.
Isco impressed as a substitute in a tense final at San Siro, which Madrid eventually won on penalties after goals from Sergio Ramos and Yannick Carrasco ensured the match finished 1-1 after extra-time.
The second half began dramatically when Pepe clumsily caught Fernando Torres’ ankle in the area to give away a penalty but Griezmann fired against the underside of the bar, possibly distracted by Keylor Navas’s antics on the goal line.
But it took only six minutes for Real to start knocking on the door when Jan Oblak had to produce a point-blank save from Karim Benzema after Gareth Bale’s back-header.
“To be honest, I was confident I would score, I said to Zidane before the penalties, ‘put me the last one because I feel I’m going to score the winning goal, and this is what happened”, he said.
The festivities hit their high point when captain Sergio Ramos tied a club scarf around the goddess’ shoulders – and, of course, when the defender lifted the Champions League trophy for all to see. Griezmann, whose clever pass had led to the incident, strode up to the spot confidently but his firmly struck shot crashed out off the crossbar to the delight of Real supporters.

It could have been a pivotal moment but Atleti, a team moulded in Simeone’s image, are made of stern stuff and they came back with Stefan Savic stabbing wide, Koke swerving a shot on the angle just wide and Saul Niguez hooking a volley past the far post.
