Rooney says that he never actually submitted a transfer request in 2013, but did strongly suggest to the manager that he leave.

England captain Rooney admitted he fell out with Ferguson before his retirement but insists he did not ask to leave Old Trafford.

In an interview for an upcoming BBC documentary on Rooney, the former Manchester United attacker has defended his actions. “I don’t know why it came out that way”.

“I told them I did not think it fair that Rooney should earn twice what I made and Joel Glazer immediately said: ‘I totally agree with you but what should we do?“.

Meanwhile, Rooney has become United’s third all-time leading goalscorer, netting 235 times.

Wayne Rooney may be England’s most prolific ever goal scorer, but off the pitch he loves nothing more than spending time with his family.

“So when I first got with Coleen I used to write her a lot of poems but that’s died down a little bit of late”.

“I used to love writing poems, even before I was with Coleen,” said Rooney.

Eriksson has said that he had no choice but to include Rooney in the squad, despite Ferguson telling him not to. “But the future, nobody knows, maybe we will play one day together again”.

England and Portugal met in the quarter-final of the 2006 world cup and with the tie still in the balance, Rooney looked to have stamped on Ricardo Carvalho. “It was a big ask to get fit after six weeks out; I was never going to have that match sharpness”.

Then two years ago Rooney was in and out of the United team before Ferguson’s retirement and Chelsea wanted to sign him.
