Ronaldo sets goals record for Champions League group stage

On the eve of Real Madrid’s Champions League group match against Malmo, Rafael Benitez admitted that his team will not be complacent and will be looking to extend their good run of form. Fans were still angry at the demoralizing 4-0 home loss to Barcelona in the Spanish league and disqualification from the Copa del Rey because the club used an ineligible player.

Ronaldo started his onslaught from a free kick, which has been a point of contention in his game recently.

The Portugal forward made it 3-0 to Real six minutes before halftime at the Bernabeu and added three more goals in the 47th, 50th and 59th minutes.

He then put the second goal on the board as well for his La Liga side in the 24 minute.

The floodgates opened in the 12th minute when Karim Benzema fired home after the ball was laid into his path from Isco and just minutes later he got his second when he headed Ronaldo’s cross into the top corner. Malmo will of course try to keep things tight but they play against a very strong side here and I cant see them staying in this one.

Ronaldo is the first player to hit double figures in the #UCL group stage! Cheryshev had been jeered by Madrid fans before the game against Getafe on Saturday, but he was loudly applauded on Wednesday when he came on as a substitute in the 76th, with Madrid already up 8-0.

Malmo can earn a third-place finish and a spot in the UEFA Europa League with a shock victory (and help from PSG against Shakthtar Donetsk in the group’s other finale).
