Ronaldo strikes shootout victor as Real crowned kings of Europe

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winning penalty in a shootout to give Real Madrid victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final which finished 1-1 after extra time on Saturday.

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos headed his team ahead as reward for their first-half dominance, Atletico attacker Antoine Griezmann missed a penalty soon after the break, but substitute Yannick Carrasco equalised late on to send the game to extra-time.

The Portugal worldwide hailed Real’s composure and felt their greater experience over Atletico made the difference when it mattered.

As Champions League victor, Madrid will play in the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA’s Club World Cup.
