Albuquerque’s own Holly Holm shocked the world by defeating Ronda Rousey in convincing fashion on Saturday night for the UFC Bantamweight title.

Rousey was hot favourite for the fight having been undefeated throughout her professional career.
“The rematch makes a lot of sense”, said UFC president Dana White following the fight. “I mean she’s undefeated and an incredible athlete and I think definitely the biggest threat to me”. She reportedly will undergo plastic surgery on her lip, though.
Rousey previously took a public dig at Holm, a preacher’s daughter, appearing on American talk show Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
Bruises fade and cuts heal, and knowing Rousey she’s be back in the ring challenging her next opponent in short matter of time. That the fight was already over in the second round was a big surprise.
Holm made it clear that in the world of mixed martial arts, a champion can be taken down. In the second, Rousey attempted to chase Holm down and, in a transition, got caught with a violent head kick. “Getting in here, I just felt so much support – I thought, ‘How can I not do this with all this support?’ I had the best coaching, from standup to grappling to wrestling”.

Speaking at the post-fight press conference, Holly Holm indicated that she believed a re-match should take place. We knew what holly was capable of we have seen her in here every day for years and years and years. So for a champion like Ronda, who has gone out of her way to do great things, absolutely, she deserves a rematch. “I did visualize the kick being there, and I also visualized myself being in other situations in the fight because I didn’t want to get in there and it be brand new”. She had a ideal, flawless game plan.
