Rondo: Bulls Is Still Butler’s Team

Miami Heat legend and former Marquette star Dwyane Wade decided late Wednesday night to join his hometown Bulls, rocking the National Basketball Association.

In a report by Jeff Zillgitt for USA Today, the Bulls are purportedly offering him $47.5 million which also lasts for two years.

Despite his departure, some fans will hold onto the memories Wade helped create in Miami and stay loyal to the superstar. But alas, the championship-winning athlete will set aside his black and red Heat Jersey and don a Chicago Bulls uniform instead.

Another political figure – Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez – thanked Wade for what he did for the Heat and Miami-Dade County. Quite a drastic change but one that Wade is ready to embrace.

“I don’t want to be on the market at all”, Wade told reporters.

I Tweeted this monring that the signing of Dwyane Wade reminded me of when the White Sox acquired Ken Griffey, Jr., or when the Blackhawks got Bobby Orr. We know where he belongs …

In the end, we do think this was the best thing that Wade could have done to diffuse a little bit of tension; he was honest, fully, and was also able to do this without any sort of grand-standing or patronizing.

Why the acrimony now? Wade and Rondo have championships rings, so the pressure should not be a problem for them next year.

From Wade’s perspective, it’s easy to see why he’s jilted.

That was before LeBron James and Chris Bosh signed with the Heat and the guard stayed in Miami and helped the team win three National Basketball Association championships. Being a kid, you know, Michael Jordan, Chicago Bulls was the team for us. The signing of Dwayne Wade – while exciting – on top of signing Rajon Rondo shows that not only is GarPax going against their own plan for the offseason, but it shows that they never really had a plan all along. He was the Finals MVP in 2006. Maybe. But are they enticing you to watch them this upcoming season, for better or for worse? And when factoring in tax ramifications, that offer wasn’t too far off from what the Bulls will pay Wade in the next two seasons. How about 12-time All-Star Dwyane Wade, who agreed to a contract with the team on Wednesday? He is the Franchise’s all-time leader in points, games, minutes, assists, steals, free throws, concessions sold, houses sold, you get the picture.
