‘Room’ Star Jacob Tremblay Wins Critics’ Choice Awards With His Adorable Speech

Perhaps the biggest victor of the night was action film Mad Max: Fury Road, which scooped nine awards from 13 nominations, including best action movie and top prizes for the film’s stars, Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron.

The seventh “Star Wars” film was not originally included in the best picture category when nominations were announced in December but was added shortly after a follow-up vote was held by members of the Broadcast Film Critics Association. Further prizes for “Mad Max” were given for the following categories: Production Design, Editing, Costume Design, Hair & Makeup and Visual Effects.

Best Picture went to “Spotlight”, a dramatic journalism movie, which also got the Acting Ensemble award.

Past best picture Critics’ Choice winners-turned-best picture Oscar losers include Brokeback Mountain, The Social Network and, just a year ago, Boyhood.

The nine-year-old actor reduced people to tears at the glamorous ceremony in Santa Monica last night (01.17.16) when he waltzed on stage to give his adorable acceptance speech as his picked up his gong for Best Young Actor/Actress thanks to his turn in “Room”.

Ex Machina, Inside Out and Amy bagged the Best Sci-Fi/Horror Movie, Best Animated Feature and Best Documentary Feature respectively.

Best Foreign Language Film: “Son of Saul”.

The blockbuster Furious 7 got glory for its song “See You Again” which was in memory of the late actor Paul Walker who died in a auto crash.

On the television side, “Mr Robot” took best drama and Indian-American Aziz Ansari’s “Master of None” surprised everyone by winning best comedy.

Best Actress in a Comedy Series: Rachel Bloom, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”.

Amy Schumer had a Cinderella moment after being named Best Actress In A Comedy. The singer was nominated for Best Supporting Actor In A Movie Or Limited Series for his performance as the Tin-Man in NBC’s The Wiz Live!

Carrie Coon won lead actress in a drama for “The Leftovers”. Margo Martindale won for guest actress in a drama for “The Good Wife”.

Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series: Mayim Bialik, “The Big Bang Theory”.

Best Structured Reality Show: “Shark Tank”. James Lipton of “Inside the Actors Studio” won for reality show host.
