United have prioritised signing Atletico Madrid goalscorer Antoine Griezmann next year, although their plans could be complicated by the Spanish club’s 2017 transfer ban and Mourinho is believed to have eulogised former United midfielder Danny Drinkwater.

Manchester United players are concerned Jose Mourinho’s public and private criticism is having a negative effect on their campaign, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The 30-year-old has scored one goal and made two assists in the Premier League this term but was unable to prevent United from slipping to their third straight defeat against Watford at Vicarage Road on Sunday.

“Mourinho thinks he can go around and say what he wants – because of his name and what he’s achieved – and the players will accept it”. They know the history of the man. “But give him 25 metres and you have to press. It’s something that doesn’t become flawless in a couple of weeks”. They also suggest that many of his teammates are shocked by the treatment of a player with an unfortunate injury history who has also previously seen a sports psychologist since his £27m ($35m) switch from Southampton in 2014.

Martial, 20, collided with Janmaat and seven minutes later lost the ball in the buildup to Watford’s opener before being substituted holding his head. Henrikh Mkhitaryan has missed the last two games with a thigh injury suffered on worldwide duty with Armenia and Phil Jones is out with a knee problem.
