Rooney defends England role

Adam Lallana scored his first goal for England with the last kick of the game to give Sam Allardyce a win to remember in his first outing as manager.

“There is only one place at the World Cup”, Durica told reporters.

Allardyce was asked about the letter in a pre-match press conference and had said he “might be able to oblige” – and he clearly did. “I wonder how far it will take us”. “To be going into it from a real position of strength, maybe that happens in the future, maybe it doesn’t?”

“We have had 20 attempts on target and scored one in the last minute”.

He recently revealed how he will retire after the 2018 Russia World Cup. Allardyce will know this better than anyone and not until Russian Federation 2018 will anyone be truly able to tell – unless England’s pattern of play changes radically and they turn into a team of incisiveness and beauty – whether he can inspire his team to greater things than Hodgson and a raft of other managers who came before.

It had been a frustrating evening until then for Allardyce, with a turgid England performance reminiscent of Roy Hodgson’s final game in charge – the loss to Iceland in the round of 16 at the European Championship in June.

Martin Skrtel was sent off for stamping on Kane with the scores locked at 0-0 but, despite his defensive partner’s misdemeanour, Durica is convinced Slovakia were not treated fairly by referee Milorad Mazic.

Adam Lallana spoke of his double delight after scoring his first England goal to secure a last-gasp win over Slovakia.

Lallana and Sturridge could have snatched all three points late on but the Liverpool duo were wasteful, and when substitute Theo Walcott did beat Kozacik in stoppage time his effort was ruled out for offside.

“That feeling when you score your first goal for your country”.

“It is hard sometimes when teams like Slovakia drop off and make it very hard to play through, you have to be very patient and make sure that ball is spot on every time or they will cut it out. We were really unhappy”, Durica, who has played more than 80 global caps, said.

The 30-year-old has been accustomed to playing a slightly deeper role as he is drawing closer to the twilight years of his career.

Peter Shilton has urged Wayne Rooney to step aside from worldwide football.

Speaking after the game, Big Sam made it clear Rooney has not forgotten his role as a goalscorer for the England side.
