Rooney feeling the pressure to prove himself to Mourinho

Manchester United prospect Axel Tuanzebe was delighted to hear manager Jose Mourinho’s kind words for him after his 10-minute cameo. I’m excited for it.

It led to renewed hope that only increased with the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly, while a world-record move for Juventus’ Paul Pogba remained on the cards as United arrived in China for a short pre-season tour. “A year ago I was out a bit with injury and now I can start fresh and really give it a good go to try and sneak into the first team”.

“I will try to do my best to help the team win the games and for the new season we are going to try to do everything to win titles”, he said.

When Jose Mourinho was announced as Louis van Gaal’s replacement at Manchester United, it seemed a foregone conclusion that Juan Mata would be heading for the Old Trafford exits. Tyler Blackett, meanwhile, couldn’t force a first-team role whilst on loan at Celtic last season.

“You always feel you have to prove yourself every season, because it’s a dream to play for such a big club”.

The 27-year-old – who will become the first Armenian to play in the Premier League – looked impressive and the momentum has certainly been brought over after a great season in the Bundesliga.

It was taken in good humour, though, as was a question about how the captain was finding it working under former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss Mourinho.

“I’ve only had one day [training with Mourinho] since we came out, but it was a very good day”, he said.
