Rooney, Smalling and Herrera fit for Norwich clash

There have been reports of unrest within the United camp over results and the style the team are playing under Van Gaal. “I have the full confidence of my board and players, that is what I feel”, he said.

“We need to get back on a run of results as this is a crucial time and we need to do it”.

Jose Mourinho’s sacking by Chelsea took the spotlight off Dutchman Van Gaal on Friday but the vultures are circling after his side were knocked out of the Champions League after defeat by Wolfsburg and lost to modest Bournemouth last week. “A fantastic manager with a record that nobody has but it is still possible. We are very grateful to Manchester United for their interest in him coming here in the first place”.

“Yes of course I am anxious about that because I know that belief in a manager is very important, and when you lose the games you play then the belief in a manager shall decrease”. We have to win, we know that, the players know that, I know that.

He said he knows no manager is safe.

United have not won any of their last five games and failed to qualify for the Champions League round of 16, leaving many questioning Van Gaal’s future at the club. Van Gaal’s position is much stronger than Mourinho’s at this point, with his side safely cushioned in fourth spot, only six points behind leaders Leicester. “Yes, it’s fine”, he said.

What can I say?

It’s a little bit insane, but that is the world.

Manchester United’s captain Wayne Rooney is fit and theoretically firing. Players like Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind, Ander Herrera and others have only played under Van Gaal and never experienced the trophy-glut of the last few seasons under Sir Alex. “But in these circumstances, sometimes you have to take risks”.

Bringing Wayne Rooney back means pushing Anthony Martial out wide, but his pace, and Memphis Depay’s on the left, should be enough to worry Norwich’s full-backs.

Louis van Gaal is 18 months and $375 million into his “process” of rebuilding Manchester United. We’re working hard out on the training ground on every aspect of the game.

“But still, after the second goal, the fans were supporting us and they give a good example that you have to stick together to come out of this period because that is the main objective now”.

“John Ruddy at the moment is under an internal investigation from the club as to what happened, and that is basically as much as I can say on that until that is concluded”, the Norwich manager said at a press conference.
