Rose, who will join Masters champion Danny Willett, Charley Hull and Catriona Matthew in Team GB, hopes McIlroy may not have meant the “stuff that matters” comment.

But the 27-year-old feels he has erred on the side of caution in recent majors and revealed during the French Open a fortnight ago that he was taking “four or five swing thoughts” onto the course as he battled to eradicate some bad habits from his game.

LONDON (AP) – IOC President Thomas Bach says the absence of numerous top men from the Olympic golf tournament in Rio de Janeiro will be taken into account in evaluating the sport’s future in the games.

“I could understand unease from any female athletes, especially young ones, when it comes to the virus”, said the 49-year-old German.

“I haven’t been blood-tested yet”.

The Holywood-born star also offered his feelings and fears over the lack of top-level drugs testing in the sport when conducting a press conference on Tuesday.

“You can’t really pick up HGH (human growth hormone) in a urine test, so I could use HGH and get away with it”.

Massaro claims golf’s place at future Olympic Games should be reassessed if the game’s leading players fails to appreciate the value of the sport.

Bach added that “very different reasons” not related to Zika have also been cited in golf circles for skipping the Olympics.

“But I’m happy where my game is”.

Golf apparently ranks low on the list of sports McIlroy might watch during the Games in August. I’ve received a lot from the game of golf.

“This year I just had to try and weigh a risk that doesn’t present itself every year, and just at the time that I had to make the decision, I just felt this was the right move for me.

Because I’m a huge believer in Olympic golf”, Spieth said Tuesday during a news conference that touched only briefly on his bid for the third leg of the career Grand Slam at the British Open.

Rory McIlroy, among those who have withdrawn from the games, said Monday that golf needs to get tougher in its drug-testing procedures if it “wants to be seen as a mainstream sport”.

But the two-time major victor refused to elaborate on the “health concerns” which led to him pulling out of the American team at the last minute, even after sitting next to Rickie Fowler as he confirmed his own participation on social media. “I can’t. I can tell you that I’m not specifically pinpointing any one thing in my health concerns either”.

“I can’t worry about other guys”, McIlroy said. I liked the food there, too, and the tractors. “I’ll probably watch the Olympics, but I’m not sure golf will be one of the events I watch”.

“I’m excited to be here, I love playing links golf and it’s time to start to playing a little better”.
