The 26-year-old was forced to pull out of The Open Championship last month where he was due to defend his title after he suffered a total rupture of the anterior talofibular ligament in his left ankle last month.

Rory McIlroy is making an quicker than expected recovery from his recent ankle injury and posted pictures of the damage on Instagram to show his fans how far he has come. He told his followers the images were from “4 and a half and 3 and a half weeks ago respectively…”
Accompanied with the message, “Feels good to hit the driver again!”, McIlroy shared a short clip on his Instagram account of him playing from a tee.
But a video of him working out in the gym, and two pictures showing his ankle a few weeks ago, suggest that the Northern Irishman is working hard and confident of a return sooner rather than later.
Cape Town – World number one Rory McIlroy could be a surprise inclusion in field for next week’s 2015 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.

His spokesperson said on Tuesday that McIlroy’s recovery was “ongoing” while refusing to comment on whether he might defend the title that he won at Valhalla previous year.
