It’s seemed like he may never win his first major, but after a long journey Jason Day finally has that monkey off his back.

Day joins four other Australians who have won the PGA Championship: Jim Ferrier (1947), David Graham (1979), Wayne Grady (1990) and Steve Elkington (1995).
It was a record-breaking final score for Day who earned a 20 under par, which according to BBC, broke Tiger Woods’ record of 19 under during the 2000 Open Championship. There’s a lot of emotion because I have been so close so many times and fell short.
“I got the update online and it takes a little while to get updated so I was very anxious”, she said, via ABC Brisbane.
Day’s first major title also lifted him to third in the latest standings and means the world’s top three players are aged 22, 26 and 27 respectively.
Jordan Spieth has replaced Rory McIlroy as world number one after finishing second to Jason Day in the US PGA Championship.
Spieth quipped that the pressure of contending in the majors was the cause of his receding hairline.
When Day matched his playing partner’s birdie putt on the par-5 fifth, Spieth felt the need to inform his caddy of something that was readily apparent.
“Overall I’m just really pleased with how I played”.
He took charge from the get-go and finished the job in style on Sunday, when he was the best player on the course despite new world No1 Jordan Spieth’s relentless brilliance pushing him all the way.
Day started the final round with a two-shot lead and continued to extend that advantage.
“I’ve changed so much from where I was and what I saw as a kid to where I am now”, Day said.

Spieth almost ended up in a playoff for the US Open and he assumed the number one ranking after McIlroy did not finish in at least sixth place. I feel like I progressed each and every day. Rory McIlroy went out and beat everyone on the biggest stages at a young age; it stands you in very good stead.
He was three strokes in front of Jordan Spieth, the 22-year old American who captured two majors this year.
The two made it interesting in the opening holes, starting with Jason Day’s birdie on the second hole, Spieth would follow up with a birdie of his own at the third to remain within two.

Spieth won the Masters and the US Open earlier this year, winning by four shots from Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose at Augusta National and one from Louis Oosthuizen and Dustin Johnson at Chambers Bay.
