Rory McIlroy will miss British Open with

The inevitable became reality Wednesday when Rory McIlroy announced he will not play the British Open next week at St. Andrews. And so I don’t think you stop doing what you’ve always done to this point.

Kuchar has not played competitively since finishing joint 12th in the US Open, a decision the 36-year-old found hard to take after being pleased with his performance at Chambers Bay. I’m not particularly comfortable in the water yet but I’ve had a couple cracks at it.

Harrington said: “The biggest issue, one that not too many have picked up on, is that it’s his left ankle”.

World number seven Rose was in the Royal Box at Wimbledon last Saturday and admitted he admired Briton Andy Murray’s mental strength and Swiss Roger Federer’s calmness and will look to take those characteristics into this week’s Scottish tournament. “Rory will play in many more Open Championships and our primary concern is for his complete recovery”.

“I’m clearly disappointed for him, as I know what it’s like to pick up an injury”, the Englishman said in a webchat for CNN’s Living Golf show.

“We want him back. And hopefully, he rebounds quickly and gets back right to where he was”.

When asked whether McIlroy could be criticised, Mickelson told reporters ahead of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open: “I can’t talk about that for the simple reason I did it myself”.

“By the time I got to play the sixth hole on the Thursday, that was the first time I’d put the wrist under any pressure – and, when I did, it was fine”. If he is forced to change his swing in order to accommodate the lingering consequences of this injury, those long arcing shots that are his trademark could be a thing of the past, even after the original injury is healed. I just couldn’t prepare because of an injury – which probably did me some good, looking back. The 133-year-old course is a short walk from British Open venue Muirfield, and this year’s event is being played over a composite of the club’s No. 1 and No. 2 courses, totaling 7,133 yards (6,524 meters) for a par 70. I thought it was one of the greatest stories in all of sports in the history of any sport.

And, as the world number one continues his rehabilitation, no timeframe has been put in place for his next appearance on tour.

Over the course of a four-day, 72-hole tournament players and caddies will typically trudge up to 25 miles, often over very rugged terrain.
