Rory McIlroy won’t play in British Open after injuring ankle

(Remember Chambers Bay?) Strong knees and ankles are required.

Yes, that’s right. Fishing.

McIlroy said he ruptured a ligament in his left ankle over the weekend while playing soccer with friends in Northern Ireland.

SportsCenter noted that McIlroy would be the first Open champion not to defend his title since Ben Hogan in 1954.

“I am thrilled as it will be now two big special weeks for me”.

“In 1994, I snapped my finger before the Masters, skiing”.

“I’ve not encountered any sharks yet but a couple of my mates have and I’m bracing myself for my first time”.

“Rory has to keep doing what he’s been doing all his life”, Rose told reporters on Tuesday.

Some time away from the course may aid McIlroy in rediscovering his best form.

“I can understand what he’ll be going through”.

“So it’s a tough one“. I’m sure he’s really disappointed….

“Thank you for all your support and best wishes”. “I do think every day you could get hurt”.

They added: “Rory will play in many more Opens and our primary concern is for his complete recovery”. You can’t stop living your life.

The world No1 will not defend his title after rupturing ligaments in his left ankle. That’s a problem.

Citing research conducted at the Penn State Medical Center on the lingering symptoms of ATFL ligament injury – tendinitis, stiffness, swelling and pain to the area of injury – Golf Digest has raised some questions about how McIlroy’s game could be impacted. “It is unfortunate that it happened, hopefully he will heal soon and be back at it”.

“And as far as with Rory, it’s just – we want him back”.

Spieth is wary of injuries, but has no plans to curtail anything he does off the course for fun in the wake of McIlroy’s mishap.

“It’s hugely disappointing, especially with him and Jordan and everything that’s going on”, Graeme McDowell said from the Scottish Open.

The past four British Open champions prepared for the third major of the year by playing the Scottish Open the previous week, perhaps explaining the depth of the field. Anything involving water relaxes me, so maybe spearfishing – that’s probably the most James Bond, daredevil thing I get up to.

“So I wasn’t playing under an injury”. I don’t hold back. “I thought he’d get it done around there”. I tested it after six holes and it worked.

And, as the world number one continues his rehabilitation, no timeframe has been put in place for his next appearance on tour.
