That was the unwanted scenario in prospect for both title contenders Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg ahead of a meeting at the team factory at Brackley on Tuesday when a series of bad getaways from the grid goes under the technical microscope.

“In the race he said, “Don’t worry guys, I got it wrong at the start”, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said.
Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, who finished third, revealed he knew the race was over when the Hamilton did one stop lesser than him.
“It was unbelievable. He came from so far back”.

Rosberg’s win means he closes the gap between him and Hamilton for the Driver’s Championship to just two points, with Hamilton now at 250 points to his Rosberg’s 248. “The race went perfectly for me and after a good start I was able manage the gap between myself and the auto behind”.
In what turned out to be a relatively clean race, Nico Rosberg crossed the line first to take home his 21st career win and first at Monza.
“As I said yesterday, when we were practicing for the race on Friday I was looking really strong”. As Rosberg punched in quick laps, making as much hay as he could while the Italian sun shone on him, Hamilton took only a lap to dispose of Ricciardo, but another 10 before Bottas finally succumbed as his Williams’ supersofts began to lose their edge.
“Well, he did one stop less, so obviously it was clear after our second stop he would be ahead of us – and I think the problem was that he was too far ahead of us”. Hopefully we can take the advantage at the start but we have to wait and see. It’s a long way down to Turn 1 and even if we can try something the race is not one stretch, it’s 53 laps around here.
‘In this particular case, it is a combination of things so that is why I don’t want to go there. With it, Ricciardo ended the race in fifth place while Bottas had to contend for sixth.
Hamilton managed to get past Ricciardo and Bottas and, because Vettel and Raikkonen were on a two-stop strategy (the Mercedes pair were on one-stop), he managed to finish behind Rosberg. Today we would have learnt again but this year has been a harder year for us with the clutch. Indeed McLaren chairman Ron Dennis, who flanked Button as he made the announcement from inside the team’s motorhome on Saturday night, was keen to stress Button’s latest move should not be viewed as his retirement.

He knows he has a fight on his hands for the remaining seven races. I think in the end the gap was still fairly big. “I think we have to properly address that topic because it cost him a race and I think we all need to stick the heads together to avoid that for him and the team”. I was hoping that he’ll go on the brakes a bit sooner but he didn’t. In the Constructors’ Championship, Mercedes enjoys 498 points versus the 290 of Red Bull and 279 of Ferrari.
