Rosberg reflects on fourth straight success for Mercedes

Rosberg now holds a 43-point lead over Hamilton in the championship after winning his fourth successive race of the season at the Russian Grand Prix on Sunday.

In formula one, it was like another routine run from pole to the checkered flag for Nico Rosberg at the Russian Grand Prix. “I had the pace, but then I had the problem with the engine again and I had to back off”.

“It sounds cool. But beyond that it’s not my focus”, Rosberg said when asked about the streak that started in Mexico last November. If we screw up, it’s about admitting that it wasn’t the best we could’ve done. “All I could do was apologise, because this week it was unfortunately a mistake from Dany”, he admitted.

Mercedes switched the power unit in his auto after it failed in qualifying, flying parts out from Britain overnight by private jet to avoid a penalty that would have forced Hamilton to start from the pit lane. With the win, the German is now way ahead of Hamilton in the points, 100 to 57. But now that’s the way it is and I’ve been happy with it and it’s been very enjoyable.

Hamilton has not won a race since he took his third title in Texas in October and has suffered mechanical problems in his last two races, starting from the back of the grid in China and 10th in Sochi.

“I believe I had a chance to win”.

This makes it seven straight wins for Rosberg, dating back to the 2015 season’s final three races. Instead he tries to go through him, and the Ferrari driver is out of the race.

“It’s not that it’s hurting, it’s just…it’s not great”.

“I am aware there is likely to be one more 10-place penalty because I have one more reprimand to go”. “The last one was bloody ridiculous”.

“I’m surprised because we’ve always said that they were that close and they were not close at all”, he said. “Of course it doesn’t feel great but these things happen sometimes”. “We know quite a few small things that we want to improve, and we know that there’s some improvements coming”, said the Finn.

“We are pushing the limits on the chassis and the engine sides a lot in order to have a competitive vehicle and this is why we are winning races, but also if you push the limits at a certain stage you find them”.
