The meeting between UNLV and UCLA will be the second between the two teams.

UCLA outlasted UNLV 42-21 Saturday evening at the Rose Bowl in a game that proved more frustrating than expected for the Bruins, who entered the matchup as a 26-point favorite. UNLV pulled within 28-21 thanks in part to possessing the ball for almost 11 minutes in the third quarter to UCLA’s four. By the end of the game, 15 different receivers had at least one reception.

The Bruins allowed their third rushing touchdown to a quarterback this season when Stanton capped an 11-play, 60-yard drive with an 11-yard run to pull UNLV within seven points at the 5:23 mark of the third quarter.

After falling behind 28-7 in the first half, the Rebels battled back and trailed by a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

“I strongly believe I am the best quarterback in this country and in order to do so I have to take the responsibility of such”, Rosen said.

Said Thomas, “I think people realize that we’re not the same team from previous year”. We’re trying to gain that as an offense and play by play, game by game, we’re going to progress toward that and come on the field with that swagger that no one can stop us.

The UCLA Bruins defense will also need to find itself as well.

UNLV then went to work exposing the UCLA secondary’s tackling issues.

Today, the Bruins have a chance to get back to their winning ways as they take on the UNLV Rebels.

Stanton found Mekhi Stevenson for a 14-yard touchdown pass late in the first half and scored on an 11-yard run in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 28-21. All of a sudden, we have that and they get the first down and score. Are we teaching them the right technique? “Once again the quarterback running the ball was giving us problems”. And maybe we have to change out halftime routine or something.

But when the Bruins needed to salt the game away and control the clock with a lead, they did.

Fabian Moreau intercepted passes by the Rebels’ Johnny Stanton twice, taking the first back 52 yards to set up a short touchdown run by Jamabo. After running the ball only 21 times in the first three quarters, the Bruins ran the ball 19 times in the fourth quarter alone. He completed 23 of 28 passes for 294 yards and deferred to backup K.J. Carta-Samuels after the opening drive of the third quarter following his fifth touchdown pass of the day, an 8-yard strike to Ross that gave Washington a 42-0 lead. “He had a good game last week, but this is his first time in an environment like this playing against a Pac-12 school”. Eldridge Massington dropped another long pass in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore running back Soso Jamabo had three touchdowns for the Bruins in the first half to put them up 28-14. Although the Rebels cut the lead to one touchdown UCLA hung on for the 42-21 win
