After almost a decade of playing with Vampire Weekend, Rostam Batmanglij has announced he is leaving the band.

In a note Batmanglij posted to Twitter, he expresses his wish to have his “identity” as a songwriter and “producer “stand on its own”.
Posting a statement to Twitter, Batmanglij said that while he was “no longer a member” of Vampire Weekend, he would still “continue to collaborate on future projects” and “future Vampire Weekend songs” with frontman Ezra Koenig.
“There is so much incredible music-all of it dear to me- on its way to you”.
Though Batmanglij didn’t offer up the specifics on any immediate projects, the last few years have seen him working with a number of collaborators outside of Vampire Weekend.
Vampire weekend form in 2006 in New York City, and the remaining band members include Ezra Koenig, Chris Baio and Chris Tomson. At the time, he told Pitchfork, “I’d like to release solo songs on a regular basis, but it’s pretty hard for me to finish them”.

Batmanglij has performed solo as Rostam, Billboard noted. The first is a band called Discovery, that features just Batmanglij and which the artist began in 2005.
