Rotherham close in on new manager

Despite chaos off the field under the stewardship of Italian Massimo Cellino, which included seeing his assistant manager Steve Thompson sacked in April, he led Leeds away from relegation in the Championship and to mid-table safety.

The 50-year-old had a spell in charge of Leeds United last season, but despite earning a number of plaudits for the job he did, he eventually left Elland Road.

“In a nutshell, the best way to describe it would be if we had a press conference, like we’ve had today, there would be 25 minutes of other stuff and five minutes about football”, Redfearn said at his official unveiling at New York Stadium on Monday.

“It has stood me in good stead, without a shadow of a doubt”.

“Weaker people would have probably gone under but I’m strong as a person”.

He said: “It’s been proven in the past with teams like Bournemouth and we are no different”.

It’s surprising just how rational these tweets are, with most fans either happy with the appointment or willing to give him a chance before passing judgement. “I think all those processes and those experiences stand you in good stead”.

With Doncaster Rovers expected to announce their new manager on Tuesday, one name heavily linked with the job can be scratched off the list.

Redfearn was officially unveiled as Rotherham’s successor to Steve Evans yesterday, three months after quitting Leeds in acrimonious fashion.

“We’ve got to give these lads an opportunity”.

Redfearn said: “Leeds is water under the bridge now”.
