Rouhani: Halt on flights over Syria would help radicals
Iranian leaders have repeatedly denounced as “theft” a US Supreme Court ruling in April that nearly $2 billion in frozen Iranian assets must be paid to American families of those killed in attacks blamed on the Islamic Republic.

“The lack of compliance (with the deal) on the part of the United States in the past several months represents a flawed approach that should be rectified forthwith”, Rouhani told the world body.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said that terrorist organizations are spreading extremism in the name of religion, ARY News reported.
Rouhani also mentioned the two countries cultural commonalities and noted that both sides should try to cement the economic ties alongside cultural and politic relationships. But he coupled it with a warning against “illegal actions” by Washington.
For Rouhani, the hope is that the deal will start producing economic benefits before spring, when he will be up for reelection, Samore says. “Does Rouhani win reelection, does he keep Zarif on as foreign minister if he does”, and who will be the next USA president and secretary of State?
The leading Shia Muslim power, Iran and Sunni monarchy Saudi Arabia are both fighting Sunni militants of Islamic State, which controls parts of Syria and Iraq and has supporters and sympathisers worldwide who have carried out bombings and shootings of civilians.
Also, in a meeting with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday, Iranian president said that Pakistan can meet its energy needs through Iran.
But he was most tough on Saudi Arabia.
The third day of the United Nations General Assembly in NY is sparking considerable interest, as President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are also scheduled to give speeches in the next few hours. “Undoubtedly, if the region is to reverse the current unsafe trend into one towards development and stability, certain countries must stop bombing their neighbors, and abandon supporting Takfiri terrorist groups; and, while accepting responsibility, try to compensate for past mistakes”. Tehran views the Houthis as the legitimate authority in Yemen but denies providing any material support to them.
“The region is facing a serious danger of destabilizing its security”, the crown prince said.
Saudi Arabia “calls upon the Islamic Republic of Iran to desist from all of the policies of discrimination, racism and sectarianism and to being to build positive relations with its neighbors on the basis on the principles of good-neighborliness and non-interference”, al-Saud said.
Iran’s Rouhani was restrained in his comments on another regional rival – Israel. “Palestinians are still afflicted by a web of apartheid policies and atrocities set by the usurping Zionist regime”, he said.
This was Rouhani’s third year in a row attending the UN’s annual opening session, and over that time a leader known for pragmatism and moderation never has used the fiery and revolutionary language of his predecessor, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

And while Rouhani referred to the war in Syria, saying “millions of Syrians are stranded in deserts and high seas and hundreds of thousands of them are subjected to violent deaths”, he did not criticize the government of his ally, President Bashar al-Assad, for the violence.
